Jon
Lapointe
Designer
An artist and web designer from
Hollywood, Jon is an alumnus of CalArts MFA program.
From '95 through '97, he served as Mel Chin's chief
assistant and was the project coordinator for the duration
of the Melrose project. Today, he is a freelance web
designer who specializes in nonprofit sites for community
activists, scientists, humanities scholars and collaborative
art projects both here and abroad.
Constance Penley
Executive Producer, Editor
Named by Rolling Stone as one
of "the most dangerous professors in America," Constance
is professor and chair of Film and Media Studies at UC Santa Barbara.
She teaches and writes across the fields of media, cultural,
and science studies and is a founding editor of Camera
Obscura, the longest-running journal of feminist media
theory in English. Constance joined the GALA Committee
shortly after its inception, working with the nearby
CalArts team. She was also a member of the "Sisters
of Sam" subcommittee that created the art (and various
art world intrigues) for Melrose Place character Samantha
Riley. Constance's work on fan culture, especially the
"slashers" who radically rewrite popular television
shows to better suit their own deliciously twisted desires,
primed her for the transformative work of the GALA Committee.
